“ Went around 9AM and was seated without wait and no reservation. When I left, there was a line out the door. One of the best spots in town for the morning. ”
“ The Canteen was a truly an incredible experience, not only do you get to relax in a respectfully refurbished, intimate, historical landmark, you get the pleasure of being served by polite and friendly staff. Our server was Euwin (apologise if that is spelt incorrectly) who was friendly and accommodating from the start. He immediately recognised our excitement as we stumbled into the unexpected treat while walking the Millennium Promenade. We were initially shown the main room, which already had us basking in the warm glow of preservation and comfort, but after a quick check, Euwin was able to offer us the more private room that has a sea view and blankets should you get cold. The food was devine, I ordered the Eggs Royale on sourdough and an apple juice. I'm not sure if it was because we were on a history high or if it was the view of the sea with ships passing by, but that was the creamiest most delicious Hollandaise sauce I have ever consumed. The Salmon was fresh, the eggs poached to perfection (not too runny and not over done) and the apple juice was 100% fresh. As you can tell, my experience was 10/10, I would highly recommend The Canteen any time you're passing through. We went back the next day for a latte that my partner swears is the best he's ever tasted (I'm not a fan of coffee myself but can confirm he is a coffee snob) and will definitely be visiting again in the summer to trial the ice cream and upper Deck. ”
“ Great place to simply enjoy great food. Amazing location. Sitting places inside and outside. I felt positive vibes the moment I stepped in. The staff is polite and well trained. The atmosphere of this place, simple deco makes it unbeatable. I sat there for over an hour watching boats, listening to the sound of waves crashing the shores. Fairly priced. Busy. Clean. ”
“ It was busy when we arrived and told there was a 10 minute wait so we said we would do that. We went outside to look at the sea as there was no where really to wait. When we returned another lady was waiting for a table and she was given it so we had to wait again. That was the only downside because the rest of the experience was amazing. We had breakfast and we took away cakes. Everything was cooked beautifully and very tasty. The ingredients were all of a good quality. The staff were warm and friendly and the ambiance of the place really nice. Highly recommended. ”
“ The food was amazing, I got the canteen classic waffles and it was so tasty , my mum who was with me got a bacon bap and she loved it. The service was so good, we didn't even have to ask for water and the food came out quickly. The atmosphere is lovely, it's a bit loud for people who are noise sensitive, but it's also dog-friendly so I got to see lots of dogs, and as someone who loves dogs I was very happy. ”
“ Great visit to this cafe. At busy times, they have a good system for queuing and get to customers quickly. Interior has a minimalist feel and there's a nice outside area that looks over the harbour entrance. Lovely selection of pastries and cakes, would definitely go back when I'm next in Portsmouth. ”

“ Absolutely incredible. Came by this place by chance. The interior was stunning and great surprise. The service staff (Euan) noted how we loved it and then offered us the private area with a seaside window. Just happened to be our anniversary so this was a cherry on top or so we thought, the latter was the best I ever had the then came the food which was of great quality and tasted fantastic let alone the presentation. Ultimately a lively experience and The Canteen is now a must for us when we come back to visit Portsmouth again. Thank you team!! ”
